Arner Green WIND FARM

Why here?

Ontario has an excellent wind resource so generating electricity is feasible in many locations in the province. Despite this, not everywhere is appropriate for a wind farm development. Wind resource is just one of a number of factors that must be taken into account when considering a site such as: proximity to the electricity grid, road access, ecology, archaeology and cultural significance, and proximity to residential dwellings.

The Arner Green Wind Farm site was selected after a thorough review of all of the above factors. Further site specific investigations and consultation have been underway over the past couple years to examine the potential effects in more detail.

These consultations and studies have been used to form a full Environmental Impact Statement/ Environmental Screening Report (EIS/ESR).  For more details on the EIS/ESR document please click here.

Operating Wind Farms Nearby

The closest wind farms currently operating in the southwest region of Ontario are:

  • The Port Alma Wind Farm in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, and
  • The Erie Shores Wind Farm near Port Burwell

These wind farms, although slightly larger scale since they are transmission connected and also require a transformer station, provide a good opportunity for the local community to see how wind turbines look and sound first hand, as well as understand the potential influence that the Arner Green Wind Farm may have on the surrounding area.

For more information on the location of the two operating wind farms, see visiting a wind farm.
